There are more than 30,000 homes in the Smart Grid, Smart City trial area. These homes are now able to help the testing of next generation smart meters and other technologies. The Smart Grid, Smart City project is looking at the compatibility between some new technologies, smart meters and the grid. 

The technologies we are trialling include a number of in-home customer products, local generation through solar panels and natural gas fuel cells and electric vehicles.

The information that we gather from these trials could greatly improve the way that we provide and use electricity in Australia.
